debbieabbyEach month we’ll be highlighting a member of the Contemporary Club of Ho-Ho-Kus through a member profile here in the Blog section of our website.  These posts allow us to learn more about the women who comprise our club, providing a snapshot of their interests, family and life. You may discover that you worked at the same company or that you love the same restaurant for date night.  Enjoy!

  1. What is/was your profession?

I have been in the education profession for over 15 years.  I taught elementary school in River Edge until 5 years ago when I switched into Administration.  I am currently the Principal of Haworth Public School, a K-8 school that is very similar to Ho-Ho-Kus School.

  1. What made you decide to join the Contemporary Club? What has your favorite part been thus far?

I have heard about the Contemporary Club for years.  My mother was a member over 30 years ago and some of her closest friends were people she met in the club when she first moved into town.  When we moved into Ho-Ho-Kus, I was anxious to join and meet new people. I recently worked on the Progressive Dinner committee and really enjoyed the evening

  1. How do you like living in HHK? Where did you live previously?

Moving back to HHK after growing up in town has been special.  We love the suburban, family-friendly neighborhood.  We are extremely lucky to be a block away from my parents and two blocks from my brother, his wife, Jamie and their daughter.   After living in Hoboken and Mahwah, it has been nice to return and experience Ho-Ho-Kus as an adult.

  1. What is/are your favorite local restaurant(s) for dining: a. with your family  b. for date night/girls night out?

We are still getting to know all of the restaurants in the area.  It is hard to find to get out with a 7 month old!  We’ve always enjoyed the Ho-Ho-Kus Inn for a nice night out and the AB&G.

  1. What are your family’s plans for Thanksgiving?

We take part in a special tradition with our family and dear friends in town.  We join with the Janceks, Woods and Richards to celebrate at the Joe Jefferson Club.  It is a great time spent with extended family and friends.

  1. Tell us 2 truths and 1 lie about yourself….
  • In my spare time, I enjoy cooking and trying out new gourmet meals.
  • I’ve run and completed 3 marathons and 7 half marathons.
  • I used to live in Nashville, Tennessee.
